The Give 'Em Five Fund has been a success in so many
schools and organizations throughout West Texas and Southern New Mexico. We at Price's are proud of the programs that have been made possible through the Give 'Em Five Fund. Here are just a few of our success stories:
| ART - A POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE! |
| For: |
Creative Kids` |
| Location: |
El Paso Area |
| Description: |
Creative Kids is an organization that concentrates on bringing art education and activities to the children of El Paso. Creative Kids visits schools and other agencies to provide these type programs for children. In addition, they have a junior art studio where they hold workshops. Grants from Price's Creameries Give'Em Five Fund have enabled them to continue their endeavors with programs such as Project MAP (Making Arts Possible), and AIM (Arts in Motion). These programs reach out to children who do not have the formal and systematic opportunities to experience the arts. They focus on disadvantages and disabled children to help them find voices and channels for expressing thought, feeling, and ideas through the arts. These programs have also given "at risk" youth opportunities to learn new talents and develop a sense of self, well-being, and belonging. ART - A POSITIVE ALTERNATIVE! |

YUCCA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL |
| Location: |
Alamagordo, NM |
| Description: |
Yucca Elementary was able to expand their existing library with Accelerated Reading books that were purchased through Price's Give'Em Five Fund. These books came with software that upon completion of the book , the students are able to test their comprehension. They have checked out, read, and taken more tests that the previous years. Teachers have reported that their comprehension scores are remaining quite high. Susan Johnson, Principal, says "We are pleased to see them enjoying the new books, reading more, and continuing to show good comprehension". During silent reading time in the upper grades, students were more likely to be reading a new Accelreated Reader book than any other material. This program has helped them to develop a love for reading! |

| SCIENCE ENHANCEMENT IS FUN |
| For: |
EDGEWOOD ELEMENTARY |
| Location: |
Roswell, NM |
| Description: |
The Give'Em Five Fund was able to assist Edgewood Elementary enhance their science curriculum and help create an activity oriented, inquiry-based science experience for their students. The funds provided them with a variety of hands on science equipment from simple machine discovery kits to classrooom microscopes. Teachers have found that science activites enhance the performance of children not only in science, but also in the basic skills areas of language arts, mathematics, and other subject areas. Of particular interest is the fact that the school was on probation and in the first year alone, science test scores improved significantly! They anticipate that with time, their scores will improve even more, as students have more time to utilize this equipment. |
